The World's Wisdom Is Foolishness [1 Corinthians 1]
Today as I read 1 Corinthians 1:
v. 8 He will confirm me to the end, blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.
v. 9 God is faithful, by Him I was called into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ my Lord.
v. 24 and 30 Christ is God's power and God's wisdom, righteousness, sanctification and redemption.
I was also struck by the contrast between God's wisdom and the world's.
v. 20 says that the world's wisdom is foolishness.
This week I became aware of the world's wisdom that I have adopted. I use disgust to make my self do things like clean my bathroom. I hear my thoughts: "Hair on the floor - that is disgusting!" And if I feel disgusted enough, it will motivate me to pick up the broom and start cleaning. - that very minute no matter what else is going on. If I don't do it when I am disgusted, I won't get back to it until I notice again and am disgusted again.
How would it look if I cleaned my bathroom through God's power (grace) instead of by the power of disgust? "Hair on the floor. Thank you Lord that you brought that to my attention. What do you want me to do? You know Lord, I will probably forget to clean this unless I am disgusted by it. Will you give my Your joy instead and cause me to clean this at the moment You give me to clean? I can't do this unless You do it in me. I need Christ who is Your power and Your wisdom in this mundane task."
