33Therefore Pilate entered again into the Praetorium, and summoned Jesus and said to Him, "Are You the King of the Jews?"
34Jesus answered, "Are you saying this on your own initiative, or did others tell you about Me?"

35Pilate answered, "I am not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests delivered You to me; what have You done?"

36Jesus answered, "My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, then My servants would be fighting so that I would not be handed over to the Jews; but as it is, My kingdom is not of this realm."

37Therefore Pilate said to Him, "So You are a king?" Jesus answered, "You say correctly that I am a king. For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice."

38Pilate said to Him, "What is truth?" And when he had said this, he went out again to the Jews and said to them, "I find no guilt in Him
39"But you have a custom that I release someone for you at the Passover; do you wish then that I release for you the King of the Jews?"

40So they cried out again, saying, "Not this Man, but Barabbas." Now Barabbas was a robber.

In His trial by Pontius Pilate in the last hours of His life, Jesus states very clearly why He was born and why He was on earth.  He came to testify of the truth.  Pilate asked the question he had been struggling with his whole life, "What is truth?"

If Pilate would have listened to Jesus' words, he would have known his answer - hearing Jesus voice means you have truth.  If you want truth, listen to Jesus.  God the Father declared at the beginning of Jesus' ministry, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!" (Matthew 17:5, NIV).

He has shown us the Father. "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me." (John 14:6).

What truth did you hear from Jesus today as you spent time abiding in His words?

Jesus, we praise You that You are the Truth.  You are a king but Your kingdom is not of this realm.  Thank You, for being willing to speak the truth even as You faced incredible pain and suffering.  Thank You for being willing to lay down Your life so that we might hear the truth and be set free.  We praise You that we have Your Spirit of truth in us.  Thank You for being born for this.
