Sons of God through Faith in Christ [Galatians 3]

²²But the Scripture has shut up everyone under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.

 ²³But before faith came, we were kept in custody under the law, being shut up to the faith which was later to be revealed. ²⁴Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith. ²⁵But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor. ²⁶For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.

²⁷For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. ²⁸There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. ²⁹And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's descendants, heirs according to promise.

I hope you will take the time to read the whole chapter of Galatians 3 and see the context of the verses above.  God has carefully reminded us that even when the promise was made to Abraham, righteousness came only by faith.  "The Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, "ALL THE NATIONS WILL BE BLESSED IN YOU.' So then those who are of faith are blessed with Abraham, the believer."(vs. 8-9)

Are you wanting to ask the question, "Why did God give the law then?"  According to verse 17 God gave the law 430 years after He made this promise to Abraham. The answer is clear, "It was added because of transgressions... until the seed would come to whom the promise had been made." (v. 19) Even before we read it we felt the next question coming, "Is the Law then contrary to the promises of God?" Absolutely not! the law just cannot "impart life."  Are you getting it? "The Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith. But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor."

We praise You, God, for giving us the Law as a tutor so that we could know how desperately we need faith in Your Son.  Thank You for declaring us righteous (justified) when we believed in the redemption that Jesus made for our sins. We are amazed that we are all one in Christ.
