Establishing God's Peace
In That Day [Isaiah 11-12]
10 In that day the Root of Jesse will stand as a banner for the peoples; the nations will rally to him, and his place of rest will be glorious. 11 In that day the Lord will reach out his hand a second time to reclaim the remnant that is left of his people from Assyria, from Lower Egypt, from Upper Egypt, from Cush, from Elam, from Babylonia, from Hamath and from the islands of the sea.
12 He will raise a banner for the nations
and gather the exiles of Israel;
he will assemble the scattered people of Judah
from the four quarters of the earth.
Throughout the Bible, the phrase
in that day
is a key and repeated phrase. However, when you read the many references to that
day,
it is obvious that this
day
is a period of time and not an actual 24 hour day. In general, this day includes the turmoil that precedes the revealing of the anti-Christ all the way to the time that Christ will reign on earth and the recreation of the heavens and the earth. It refers to a series of events that have to take place before the end when God makes all things new. As you read Isaiah, there will be references to that
day
throughout the book. The exact phrase
in that day
is used 40 times in Isaiah, while other variations of the phrase are used nearly 100 times.
In that day
is found just 89 times in the entire Bible.
Part of that
day
is Christ reclaiming the remnant of His people. He is called Root of Jesse referring to His human linage through Jesse, whose son was King David. We have a King in Jesus and we are part of His Kingdom and through whatever happens between now and the time He rules on the earth, we know we have Him right here with us so that we can be those who overcome in that day!
We praise You God that You know all that needs to happen to bring this world into a better place and that You have given us Your Word that warns us about all that is to come. Cause us to know You and to stand firm and take action by Your grace as we enter these difficult days ahead. Keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, the One who has already overcome!
