God Tests and Provides [Genesis 22]

 

 ⁸Abraham said, "God will provide for Himself the lamb for the burnt offering, my son."

As Mom and I read about Abraham's test this morning, she was thinking that in today's world, Abraham would be considered a bit crazy. And she is right. But this wasn't just any time or any place or just ordinary people, this was a key event and a foundational piece in God's plan for Abraham, for Isaac and for the world. Abraham's trust in God to make a great nation of Isaac enabled Abraham to go through the test well in spite of what he may have felt as a man and a father. That test was not only testing Abraham's faith in God, but also foreshadowed God's own test to sacrifice His own Son.

And the words Abraham spoke to Isaac in verse 8 (above) were true then and ring truer still for those of us who have the privilege of living in light of the final fulfillment that God provided in Christ, the lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world!

We praise You, God, that You are the provider and for the greatest provision of Your own Son for our salvation. Cause us to trust You through our tests of faith as did our father Abraham.
