Consideration for the Poor [Leviticus 5]

 ⁵'So it shall be when he becomes guilty in one of these, that he shall confess that in which he has sinned.

 ⁶'He shall also bring his guilt offering to the LORD for his sin which he has committed, a female from the flock, a lamb or a goat as a sin offering. So the priest shall make atonement on his behalf for his sin.

 ⁷'But if he cannot afford a lamb, then he shall bring to the LORD his guilt offering for that in which he has sinned, two turtledoves or two young pigeons, one for a sin offering and the other for a burnt offering.

God gave very specific details about what to do for different unintentional sins.  These sins were dealt with in a different way because they were inadvertent and not from defiance.  But regardless if it resulted from a weakness or carelessness, an offense had been committed and there was a need for reconciliation with God.  God provided the way and made it available even for the very poor.  They could bring a grain offering but it could not contain oil or incense because this one was not a celebration offering.

I love how God's heart of love shows through as He answers each offense and gives a wide range of answers. He wanted His people to experience reconciliation.  Also, His compassion for the poor is expressed throughout the Scripture.  May we express His heart today as we deal with our children, the poor in spirit, the physically poor and any others who are at an disadvantage.  

God, we praise You for Your heart of compassionate for the poor.  You are calling us to react with Your reactions as we deal with others today.  By Your Spirit only.  By Your strength only can we respond with Your graciousness and compassion.  I pray for the mothers and fathers of you children today.  Cause them to look to You and express Your heart as they give consequences for actions that will bring reconciliation.  May they give a correct reflection of Your heart (glory).
