Remember! [Numbers 15]

37The LORD also spoke to Moses, saying,

38"Speak to the sons of Israel, and tell them that they shall make for themselves tassels on the corners of their garments throughout their generations, and that they shall put on the tassel of each corner a cord of blue.

39"It shall be a tassel for you to look at and remember all the commandments of the LORD, so as to do them and not follow after your own heart and your own eyes, after which you played the harlot,

40so that you may remember to do all My commandments and be holy to your God.

41"I am the LORD your God who brought you out from the land of Egypt to be your God; I am the LORD your God."

Forgetting gets easier the older I get! From the minute I open my eyes in the morning, I am distracted by things like deciding what to wear, feeding the dogs and letting them out, getting breakfast, glancing at the front page and the weather and reading the comics (we have two full pages of comics in Kansas City!) and that's just the beginning. When I take the dogs out, I think about how I should take them for a walk before it gets too hot, but then how will I get the blog done? On my way back into the house, I notice the 5 weeks of weeds that popped up in my garden while I was gone. Then, I notice that the painters didn't paint the trim on the windows the right color and they dripped paint on the new roof. Once back in the house, the clothes in the washer need to go into the dryer and the next load needs be washed. When I try to put my bowl in the dishwasher, it is full of dirty dishes and so I stop to get the dishwasher started and my dirty bowl ends up in the sink. And then I finally get a chance to sit and read Numbers 15 with a quick prayer that God will guide me as I read and through writing the blog.

I am so grateful for the comfy chair, the bright lamp and my warm cup of coffee that make for a sweet spot to get off of the merry-go-round of life for a time to enjoy God's Word and some time of intimacy with Him. As I read, I am reminded of things I forgot concerning God and His care. He speaks softly to me through the ancient text and stirs my heart and mind to remember Him and to strive in His strength to keep on remembering Him and His Word. I thank God for my EGP journal that has kept me remembering much like the tassels the men were to wear on their clothes.

Remembering means to exercise the mind. Our lazy flesh often rebels against exercise of any kind and the distractions of life seem like good excuses not to take the time to time to remember. God knows these things and loves you and me right where we are in our journey with Him. He is waiting to be remembered by us every day. And He will even provide the time and ability for us to meet with Him and remember the things He has told to countless generations and wants to tell us. The coolest part is that He will even do it through us if we will keep on asking Him to enable us to remember Him each day! He really is there for the asking!

We thank You, God, that You have reminded us over and over in Your Word to remember You, who You are and what You have done. We praise You that we have access to You every day through Jesus. Cause us to grow in spending time with You each morning remembering You and growing in intimacy with You. Thank you that You love to answer this prayer!
