Awesome God of the Word [Deuteronomy 17]

18"Now it shall come about when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, he shall write for himself a copy of this law on a scroll in the presence of the Levitical priests.

19"It shall be with him and he shall read it all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear the LORD his God, by carefully observing all the words of this law and these statutes,

20that his heart may not be lifted up above his countrymen and that he may not turn aside from the commandment, to the right or the left, so that he and his sons may continue long in his kingdom in the midst of Israel.

Does being in the Word of God daily really make any difference in my life? After all, I have so many things to do for God. He must understand that there just isn't time for reading. Besides, I go to church most Sundays and they read the Word there. And I go to a small group on Wednesdays and we read God's Word together, too.

Our fleshly minds can come up with all sorts of reasons why we don't need to read God's Word every day. However, according to God's Word, there are some important benefits that you receive when you read the Bible daily. You can think of it as downloading a perfect program into your brain that is much better than the original version. First of all, you will be better prepared to know the true awesome God with this new program. He is a fearsome God who commands respect, honor and obedience. Second, as you come to know and fear Him, you have a greater chance of growing in obedience to Him and are kept in a humble place with God and man. You can think of this as downloading daily upgrades to keep your program going smoothly and increasing it's capacity and functioning optimally over time.

Even though these words in Deuteronomy were written to the kings of Israel, they are fitting for us today as we are His royal priesthood. How precious that He has provided His Word to impact our lives and impel us to live up to His Kingdom standards. If you are His child, no matter what you do, He loves you and is pleased with you. However, you will be utterly taken up into His awesome adventure as You spend time getting to know Him better in the Word and through prayer.

We praise You, God, that you are Awesome and worthy of respect, honor and fear. We thank You for Your Word that can download Your truth into our minds, enable us to connect better with You and impel us to live by it. Cause us to take the time for downloading Your daily upgrades through Your Word and Your Spirit. Cause us to connect with You better and more powerfully as a result. We can't, but You can!
